Event: Roundtable Alternatives to Return Policies

Please note: this event is by invitation only.

This roundtable, organised under Task 6.2 of the FAiR project, aims to advance dialogue and mutual learning among key stakeholders at both national and local levels regarding alternatives to return policies and their implementation on the ground. By sharing evidence and practices, participants will explore feasible, rights-based, and context-sensitive approaches to managing irregular migration, including national alternatives and local-level complements to return.

The roundtable is structured as a one-day, in-person event combining targeted presentations, moderated discussions, and interactive exchanges among participants. It is designed to foster cross-national and cross-level dialogue, enabling both task partners and external stakeholders to contribute insights.

Date: 25 September 2025
Venue: University of Milan, Italy

In addition to local and/or national representatives of the core FAIR project countries, selected invited participants from other countries will also join the roundtable. Their presence will enrich the comparative scope and deepen the discussion of promising approaches. In particular, Germany will be represented as an invited partner due to its relevant experiences with non-return policies, including forms of tolerated stay (Duldung) or the recently adopted Opportunity Residence Act.
